Jack-Up Barge

Maximising Jack-Up Barges’ performance with precise strength checks Marine environments can be quite demanding with heavy seas, strong currents and large tidal waves. Using conventional floating platforms can make marine projects unsuitable for the operation . Understanding the importance of safety, Vedam offers safe and efficient solutions with Jack-Up Barges (JUBs) strength checks. From developing jetties to building bridges and strengthening the breakwaters, these new-age platforms have been instrumental in hassle-free execution of the various projects.

Moreover, JUBs get additional flexibility when coupled modular pontoon is adopted. These light weight boats realise diverse arrangements to complement the needs of customers. Adapting extensions like outboard thrusters, Genset and supply pontoons can also impact the arrangements positively.

Vital checks must be carried out during envisaged operation mode for efficient and reliable JUB function:

• Each arrangement has to be assessed for its strength and stability

• Strength of the spud legs and coupler joints, in addition to the global hull strength, should be verified

• Thorough environmental parameters and topographical details are a pre requisite

• Distribution of loads on the JUB should be studied in detail

• Accurate assessment should be done to abide to codes and guidelines of classification societies, API, SNAME and other authorities

Vedam helped analyse deck strength and leg strength of a JUB

A client needed to utilise their JUB for erection of a ship loader boom from alongside barge on to temporary structure on the JUB. The lifting operation was to be carried out by 250 ton crawler crane. Vedam took up the responsibility for checking the deck strength of the temporary structure & the crane, and the leg strength for the specified lifting operations. The scope involved:

• Deck Strength Check: for foundation of temporary structure for the loaded case for predefined location and deck strength calculation for crane location.

• Leg Strength Analysis: and hull integrity check for lifting operation of the ship loader boom and also where Ship Loader Boom is placed on Temporary Structure on the JUB.

With these multiple and meticulous checks, Vedam helped the client maximise JUB usage for their project. Further, it let the client to understand the extent of JUB usage for other projects across requirements and locations
