THE GHOGHA-DAHEJ FERRY SERVICE

Here’s how Vedam contributed while an enormous challenge was being converted into a strategic opportunity:

From bringing in a Fast Passenger Ferry and registering it under the Indian flag; to preparing a roadmap for it to operate between these two tidal ports safely and efficiently was an enormous task in itself. It required a meticulous evaluation and risk assessment of each and every aspects of this operation, associated infrastructures, existing and upcoming regulatory regime along with financial/ commercial feasibility. When Vedam was contracted for this prestigious task, we carried out a complete feasibility study and in-depth evaluation involving assessment of all existing and perceived operational, technical, regulatory and commercial risks to leave no room for error. We collaborated with the operator, ISPL Pvt Ltd., at each stage of the execution, coordinated across various stakeholders and partnered in ensuring that the 1st phase of the project got inaugurated as scheduled.

As a result, the Ghogha-Dahej ferry safely operates between Ghogha in Bhavnagar district of Saurashtra across the gulf from Dahej in Bharuch district; guided by GPS and VTMS. The vessel is made of Multi-hull Aluminium catamaran structure to swiftly cut through the 31 km distance in an hour and makes two round voyages per day, porting more than 60% of its maximum capacity during its launch phase.

Ocean of opportunity: Connecting Sea-links as a solution

With nearly 14,500 Km of navigable Inland Waterways and around 7,517 Km of coastline, India is naturally blessed with a viable alternative to the long and congested road and rail transportation. And the Ghogha-Dahej Ferry project is a significant move in the direction. Coastal shipping & inland waterways not only pose a fuel efficient, environment-friendly and cost-effective mode of transportation but are absolute need-of-the-hour solutions. We at Vedam have recognised and embraced this immense opportunity well in time and are always looking forward to partnering with maritime stakeholders in translating their business idea and dream ventures into reality.
