Vedam Design Participates in INA–DGS Samarthya 2026, Contributing to India’s Maritime Transformation Dialogue
Vedam Design was proud to participate in INA–DGS Samarthya 2026, a significant conclave jointly organized by the Institution of Naval Architects (India) and the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. The event served as an important platform to discuss strategies for enhancing capability, confidence, and competitiveness in India’s maritime and shipbuilding sectors.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the organizers for curating a timely and meaningful event that brought together policymakers, industry leaders, designers, and technical experts to exchange ideas and chart the course for India’s maritime future.
The conclave reflected the growing momentum in India’s shipbuilding ecosystem and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration across policy, industry, technology, and design to drive sustainable progress.
As part of the technical sessions, Saumya Sen Gupta, Vice President, Vedam Design, delivered a presentation titled “Shaft to Switchboard”, which explored the evolution from conventional mechanical propulsion systems to modern electrical and hybrid propulsion technologies. The session focused on key aspects such as energy efficiency, operational flexibility, hybridisation, and decarbonisation, all of which are central to the future of sustainable ship design.
Vedam was also honoured to be represented by Akshay Jain, Managing Director, Vedam Design, in the CEO Roundtable discussion on “Policy to Productivity: Perspectives on Shipbuilding Transformation.” The roundtable brought together senior maritime leaders to deliberate on the opportunities and challenges in strengthening India’s shipbuilding ecosystem.
During the discussion, Mr. Akshay Jain highlighted key challenges faced by Indian ship designers and emphasized the importance of supportive policy initiatives to foster a stronger domestic design ecosystem. His insights underscored the vital role of indigenous engineering capability in driving India’s shipbuilding competitiveness.
