We are a young and dynamic organisation dedicated to designing innovative shipping solutions for companies across the globe. We are spearheaded by Naval Architects committed to solving problems through insightful engineering and with a vision to leave the planet better than we inherited.

Over the past decade, we have designed and delivered cutting edge marine, offshore, dredging and LNG solutions for our clientele including private, public and governmental organisations; spread across Southeast Asia, Middle East and Far East Asia, Europe, North America and Australia.

Our internal systems such as controlled access to design & documents, secure data transfer, training of security practices, non-disclosure agreements are developed in line with ISO 27001:2005, and we are in the process for certification

  • We believe that Piracy free is worry free. We opt for nothing but an authentic software as it avails an access to a trusted partner for technical support, ensures compatibility across systems and stands for stability as well as reliability of results. We ensure that only licensed and approved software is installed on our computer systems.

Environment Policy

  • As a design firm, we are committed to minimising the impact of our design on the environment. We actively develop and promote designs that are least wasteful during construction and emit limited or no amount of toxic wastes during operations.

Mr. Akshay Jain (Naval Architect)

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

  • One of the youngest CEOs in the marine industry, Akshay is better known as the Chief Problem Solver at Vedam Designs. His innate ability to address challenges with a modern approach helps maximise returns on projects for clients as well as the organisation. He spearheads strategy, business development, new opportunities, technology and key initiatives. He brings to the table a diverse experience in Project Management, Supervision and Consulting for shipbuilding & repairs globally.
    Akshay is a Naval Architect from IIT-Madras and has completed an executive management program from Harvard Business School, India Campus. He has a;sp been honoured with the Young Alumni Entrepreneur Award by IIT-Madras. Akshay serves the Indian Institute of Naval Architects as an executive committee member and is a regular speaker in industry conferences.

Mr. Rakesh Roy (Naval Architect)

CoFounder & Chief Operating Offier

  • Vedam’s official design brain, Rakesh is known for solving complex engineering problems using latest tools and technology. His breakthrough designs have helped in minimising construction cost and toxic waste. Rakesh heads operations and leads the design team in creating new designs, conversion or retrofit solutions for offshore as well as coastal vessels, dredgers and independent offshore Units. He brings to the team, a rich experience of various engineering analysis projects including Structural FEA, CFD, Hydrodynamics, to name a few.
    Rakesh is a Naval Architect from IIT-Madras and has completed a Management Program from SP Jain Institute of Management, Mumbai. He is also a regular speaker in Technological Forums.

Mr. Rajnish Verma (Naval Architect)

CoFounder & Director (Projects)

  • The taskmaster at Vedam Designs, Rajnish’s strength in project management comes from his on-ground involvement at the site during project executions. He heads various project teams across geographies for efficient implementation of new building, conversion and engineering projects. He singlehandedly heads the Middle East operations additionally. Rajnish brings an indepth experience of handling projects in yards in Far East, Middle East, Europe and USA and has a strong hold on various building standards and manufacturing technologies.
    Rajnish is a Naval Architect from IIT-Madras and has accomplished a General Management degree from Harvard Business School. He is also a regular speaker in Technological Forums.
Mr. Prabir Mitra

Mr. Prabir Mitra (Naval Architect)

Chief Technical Officer

  • Having garnered 50 years of rich and versatile experience in various shipyards and design firms, Mr. Mitra serves as a CTO at Vedam. He brings to the team, thorough insights and design knowhow of Inland Vessels, with over 50 Inland and Ro-Pax vessel designs credited to his name. He uses his comprehensive knowledge and experience of complete construction cycle of ships and offshore structures to drive Vedam forward.
    He has worked with major shipyards in India including Mazagaon Dock, Alcock Ashdown, L & T and Bharati shipyard after his first career move at Aalborg shipyard in Denmark. Mr. Pranab is a Naval Architect from IIT Kharagpur and an active Member at Indian Register of Shipping Technical Committee, responsible for Rule Development.

Mr. Lalatendu Acharya (Marine Engineer)

Director (Technical)

  • As a Technical Director, Lalatendu heads the system design, special projects and innovations at Vedam Designs. He brings to the team a 25+ years of international experience in vessel operations, Survey, gap analysis of ship's design & system, Vessels evaluations for Class entry, statutory compliances, project management for Major conversions, asset management, etc.
    In his previous role as an AVP (Technical) in a shipping division of an eminent Cement manufacturer, he was engaged in asset management and up-keeping of a 10 vessels fleet operating in west coast of India along with a captive port & jetty, leading a team of 150 people on shore.
    Lalatendu is a Marine Engineer from DMET.

Capt. Carl Fernandes ( Managing Director Medallion Marine Private Ltd. Mumbai )

  • A Master Mariner with over 35 years of sailing and ship management experience, CF, as he’s popularly known, brings a niche expertise in new building & projects, ship management and most importantly, building a successful team that is driven by quality and consistency.
    Before getting onboard team Vedam, CF served as a Managing Director at OMCI Ship management Pvt. Ltd.. He was credited as one of the key members of the core team that developed and institutionalized the Indian operations of OMI Marine Services LLC.

Prof. V. Anantha Subramanian

  • Prof. V. Anantha Subramanian has been teaching at IIT Madras for the last thirty years and has been a prime source of inspiration for aspiring naval architects graduating from this premier institute. His prime areas of interest are Ship hydrodynamics, Computer aided ship design, Computational Fluid Dynamics Applications, Propulsion hydrodynamics. He has been consultant to international and national ship design, building and ocean engineering related organizations. A researcher with strong credentials, he has widely travelled around the world in his professional capacity. He has a passion for creative solutions and strongly believes in enrichment and excellence through education in all its facets.

Mr. B.N. Advani

  • Mr Advani is an marine engineer and was HOD of the ship building department of the The Shipping Corporation of India . He has vast experience in all activities related to ship building . He has combined experience of more than 40 years in shipbuilding, ship management and ship operations apart from sailing as an engineer on board including rank of chief engineer. He had been on the technical committee of almost all major classfication societies. He had been attending regularly many years the IMO technical committees ( Martitime safety committee and Marine Environmental Protection Committee ).

Prof. R.P. Gokarn

  • Prof. R. P Gokarn is a Ex-Professor of Naval Architecture and Ex-Dean of post Graduate studies at I.I.T. Kharagpur and well renowned authority on Naval Architecture and Propeller Design with over 50 years teaching experience. His expertise is in Resistance, Propulsion and Manoeuvrability of Ships, High Speed Marine Craft, Ship Power Systems, Stability of Buoyant Systems, Shipyard Organisation, Shipbuilding Management, and Ship Performance.Apart from writing a number of papers and guiding research at M. Tech and Ph.D. levels, Professor Gokarn was also active in continuing education programs & lectured at several courses at NSTL ranging from Hydrodynamics of Submerged Bodies in 1975 to Hydrodynamics of Advanced Vehicles in 2001.
  • We have a team of more than 50 designers including highly qualified professional Naval Architects, Mechanical Engineers, Marine Engineers, Electrical Engineers and Marine Draftsman. The Top management team of Vedam constitutes of dedicated individuals with proven credentials- knowledge and experience.

The members who join our team are qualified engineers, experienced professionals, technically passionate designers, or high aptitude growth hungry individuals. Our team leaders and project managers are self-driven and take the complete responsibility of project they work on.   • Our 4000 SqFt head office is situated in Mumbai, the maritime capital of India. We are equipped with latest workstations, servers and video conferencing tools. Our project offices staggered across globe is just as big to satisfy the project requirement. We believe freedom breeds innovation, so unless deadlines are at risk or there are client requirements, we do not impose any strict office timings, dress codes, office protocols at our head office. However, we have strong safety requirements for our people visiting or working at construction/implementation sites.
