Production Design for Conversion of OSV to SPS Requirement
Vedam Design successfully delivered a comprehensive Detail and Production Engineering service for converting an Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV) to meet Special Purpose Ship (SPS) requirements. The project involved major upgrades, including new sea chests, FIFI and foam piping system integration, watertight bulkheads, and a full HVAC system redesign. A complete 3D scan of the vessel was performed to ensure precision in the design process. Despite a tight three-month deadline, Team Vedam coordinated all phases, from basic design to yard fabrication, culminating in successfully commissioning and trialling the FIFI system, exceeding client expectations.
Fatigue Design Assessment (FDA) Level 2 and FDA Level 3 for FPSO Life Extension.Â
We conducted a comprehensive Fatigue Design Assessment (FDA) Level 2 and Level 3 for the life extension of an FPSO. Utilizing LR Shipright software, our team reviewed previous FDA L2 and L3 assessments, identifying critical connections with Remaining Fatigue Life (RFL) below the projected operational period. We then derived and implemented structural modifications to enhance the RFL of these connections. Following the changes, we validated the improvements through reruns of FDA L2 and fine mesh analysis in FDA L3. Additionally, we provided an estimate of the steel renewal required for extending the FPSO hull’s life, ensuring continued safe and efficient operation.
Local Finite Element Analysis (FPSO Engine Room)
Vedam Design carried out a Local Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for the Engine Room of an FPSO to assess structural integrity in areas affected by corrosion. Using Ansys Mechanical software, our team conducted a detailed structural analysis to evaluate the strength of the corroded sections. The study precisely assessed the local structural strength, ensuring that the Engine Room remains safe and operational despite the identified diminutions. This analysis enabled the client to make informed decisions on necessary repairs and reinforcements.
MARPOL Annex VI Compliance
We completed a project to ensure compliance with MARPOL Annex VI fuel oil sampling requirements for nine vessels. We updated fuel oil system drawings, integrating sampling points in line with MEPC.1/Circ.864/Rev.1 standards. This project highlights our commitment to environmental responsibility and a more sustainable maritime industry.
FiFi-2 System Upgrade
Vedam successfully upgraded an offshore supply vessel with a state-of-the-art FiFi-2 system, significantly enhancing its firefighting capabilities. We ensured full regulatory compliance by updating general arrangements and crafting firefighting P&ID diagrams. Our precise balance calculations optimized pressure and flow dynamics, ensuring seamless system integration. Additionally, we developed comprehensive FiFi manuals for crew training and designed robust infrastructure with foundation drawings for pumps and monitors, ensuring the system’s reliability and longevity throughout the vessel’s operational life.
Pump Room Cooling and Ventilation Optimization
We completed the Pump Room Cooling & Ventilation Calculation Project, addressing temperature spikes and efficiency issues caused by increased genset capacity. When the client flagged the problem, Vedam responded by revamping the system, from updating general arrangements to developing firefighting P&ID diagrams and FiFi manuals. Our precise calculations and expert recommendations ensured efficient pump room ventilation, maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for onboard operations.
On-station and Tow Assessment for an FPSO
Vedam completed a comprehensive On-Station and Tow Assessment for an FPSO, measuring 267m in length, 50m in breadth, and 28m in depth. We conducted a full ship finite element analysis (FEA) of the FPSO in its degraded state to ensure structural integrity for both on-station and towing scenarios. Our analysis included optimizing vessel loading conditions, deriving environmental loads from route-specific MetOcean data, and performing frequency and time domain hydrodynamic analysis. We also developed a detailed tow plan addressing strength, stability, topside issues, and adverse environmental conditions, ensuring safe and effective towing operations.
Vessel Cargo Capacity Extension
We completed a challenging project to extend a vessel by one cargo hold. Our team conducted a thorough assessment of longitudinal strength, and buckling, and overhauled the General Arrangement (GA) to incorporate the new extension. We focused on minimal intervention, targeting above-deck modifications to ensure compliance and ease of repair. The project, executed within a month, showcased our efficient project delivery and commitment to quality. Utilizing “BV MARS” software, we stayed at the forefront of technology, with our Structure Basic Design and Stability teams working seamlessly to bring the client’s vision to life.
Water Injection Dredger Conversion
Vedam successfully converted a FiFi tug and multi-utility barge into a state-of-the-art Water Injection Dredger (WID). Our comprehensive evaluation included assessing the vessels’ structural integrity and engine capacity, followed by designing the necessary modifications and selecting appropriate dredging equipment. We provided the client with a detailed conversion plan to adapt the vessels for efficient dredging operations.
OSV Conversion for Methanol and PPD Carriage
We successfully modified an OSV vessel to safely carry Methanol and PPD in its hull tanks, fulfilling the client’s strict chartering requirements. This innovative project, the first of its kind in India, involved extensive modifications to hull tanks not originally designed for these chemicals, ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations.
Conversion of an LNG Carrier to a FSU
Vedam converted an LNG Carrier into a Floating Storage Unit (FSU), enhancing LNG storage capabilities with precise production engineering. Key project achievements include designing and implementing a robust LNG transfer tower, integrating motion-compensated gangways, relocating cranes for optimized cargo handling, and installing major mooring systems and safety structures. Utilizing advanced modeling software like Cadmatic and Tekla, we ensured accuracy and efficiency throughout the project.
