Traditionally, design engineers have used tape measures to note dimensions of existing systems and spaces on board. But there were many fallouts:

  • Uncertain measurements & relatively larger allowances
  • Discrepancies between the measurements and reality
  • Onsite installations, damage assessment , quality control issues
  • On site clashes and alteration will be required
  • Massive time and cost implications

NOW BEAT THE CHALLENGE OF ACCURATE
MEASUREMENTS WITH A 3D SOLUTION

WHAT IS 3D LASER SCANNING?

3D Laser Scanning helps capture the built environment digitally to provide you with highly-accurate, measurable, visual, and comprehensible data. For damaged areas or spaces for redesign, it studies deformities to improve the current form, and also helps meet decarbonization requirements by improving the design of the vessel. You can:
  • Effectively work on damaged areas or spaces meant to be redesigned
  • Helps identify and rectify deformities
  • Helps improve design and meet compliances
  • 3D scanning brings the spatial point cloud as the new gold standard for design and control of physical assets.

HOW IT WORKS

It surveys surfaces and collects high-density 3D data to create digital models of entities.

Uses laser pulses:

Using a ground-based or tripod-mounted light radar (LIDAR), the scanner measures a scanned object by emitting laser pulses. The laser used is safe for people working in the vicinity of a laser scanner.

Creates 3D images:

The high-accuracy scanners capture measurements from different positions, within few minutes, allowing coverage in and around the equipment. It creates high-resolution 3D images of surfaces and objects, by recording the intensity of returning pulses when reflected off it. Optical scanners use white light, 100% without interfering with the item being scanned.

Measures accurately:

The scanner is capable of taking measurements with accuracy of +/- 3 mm with measurement range of 70m. It can measure objects that are 70m far.

Generates data universally:

The data generated can be universally used on all CAD programs.

Creates 3D replica:

These scans are populated resulting in a comprehensive and accurate 3D replica of the real-world asset. The scanner provides dimensionally accurate digital replicas, vital for detecting collisions, checking alignments, ensuring accurate fitting of parts and other facilities.

Offers best-fit solution:

It finally offers the best-fit solution for a variety of like-for-like replacement services.

BENEFITS

Creates accurate 3D point cloud models:

The scanner solves the accuracy gap in retrofit designs & the existing real-world environment.

Error-free and optimized drawings:

Unlike manual calculations, 3D Laser Scanning provides optimized drawings, while ensuring both costs as well as time efficiency.

Fast turn-around time:

The scanner captures complete 360 information in a fast turnaround; and quick data turnaround from site work to data delivery.

Quick process for retrofitting design work:

The scanner provides high-accuracy plans, avoiding on-site alterations and clashes and a reduction in re-work and 'fit-up' problems.

Time-efficient:

By creating a Digital twin of your real-world assets, the process avoids potential site revisits for missed data.

APPLICATIONS

MARINE & OFFSHORE APPLICATIONS

3D Laser scanning can be used for generating as-built documentation, damage investigation, retrofits, feasibility studies, reverse engineering, tank scanning and hull form scanning.

INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING

3D Laser helps to scan the plant and create a precise as-built layout of the setup, helping plan and implement any new upgrades accurately. This leads to reduced downtime, elimination of rework and uninterrupted operations.

CONSTRUCTION & AS-BUILT MODELLING

3D Laser Scanning allows users to capture dimensions and map structures of any shape or age. It supports fool-proof scanning, and helps to align the same to a master scan. It is a vital tool in heritage and archeological conservation.

REVERSE ENGINEERING

Highly precise and portable, 3D Laser Scanners enable easy reverse engineering and help develop an integrated model of facilities. It meets functional requirements, and supports all industry formats.
