5 SCRUBBER INSTALLATION PROJECTS IN 3 MONTHS !!

Vedam could support its esteemed client to effectively complete scrubber installation on 5 of its vessels with 3 different OEM’s in a single yard, in a very short duration of only 3 months with 1 month shipyard time for each vessel, including trials and commissioning.

VEDAM was in-charge of complete detail design including all required class approvals from design perspective and also had deployed its own on site supervisor to respond to any yard queries in the shortest time possible and also to administer the installation work going on

All scrubbers were U type open loop scrubbers and installed on ships with varying ME rating of 70000 kg/hr to 140000 kg/hr of exhaust gas flow rate.

Salient features of design:

• Minimum change in LSW of vessel to avoid inclining and in many cases even update of stability software and booklet
• Maintain aesthetics of funnel and overall vessel.
• Unique design for each vessel
• No change in equipment number of the vessel
• Maximum prefabrication to reduce vessels yard time
• Minimum modification to existing structures and piping in ER and outside funnel.
• Efficient exhaust system design to avoid major change to ME turbocharger modifications.
• All designs have a standby EGCS SW pumps incorporated in the design.

Each scrubber retrofit design is unique to the vessel including scrubber casing because location of scrubber is chosen carefully to avoid major changes and maintain the aesthetics of the vessel.

Engineering calculation and analysis:

• Detailed analysis of GRE supports conducted by the GRE maker and all related concerns addressed and supports provided accordingly.
• Exhaust pipe stress analysis carried out to determine location and type of supports and provide expansion bellows. This also makes sure to avoid any major stress on the exhaust pipes.
• FEA of complete scrubber casing structure carried out to make sure of any additional stiffening to be provided to existing structures and the stress is always within limits.

All designs are being passed through rigorous Quality control, continuous model reviews with owners, OEM’s and internal experts.

We are thankful to the yard and hardworking employees of Team VEDAM who facilitated yard in doing maximum prefabrication and direct installation on these vessels with minimum fabrication work, after the vessel arrived in yard for installation.

Lastly to conclude, yes, after every retrofit completion, all the learnings were listed and captured for future improvement.
